Collection Description

Minnesota Synod.  Committee of District Deans.  Minutes of the Committee of District Deans, 1962-1987.  LCA Collection 218. 2 folders.

ABSTRACT:
The Committee of District Deans collection contains minutes, agendas, reports, and some correspondence from meetings of the District Deans.  Each district within the Minnesota Synod elected a Dean, from among parish pastors, and a secretary to serve on the committee.  Those selected acted as liaisons between congregations in their respective districts and the Synod administration.

Organization Note:

The role of the Committee of Deans taken from the constitution:

1.This committee shall consist of the president and the secretary of the synod, who shall be its chairman and secretary respectively, and the deans of the districts.

2.The function of this committee shall be to advise and assist the president of the synod in the discharge of his duties and to confer with him as to the needs of the church on the territory of the several districts.

3.The committee shall review the ministerial roll annually and make appropriate recommendations to the synod regarding those ministers whose status is subject to reconsideration and action under the terms of the constitution and by-laws of the church.
