Collection Description

Lundeen, John August.  Notebooks, Correspondence, and Autobiography of John August Lundeen, 1865, 1871-73, 1884, 1889, 1892, 1901, 1902, 1911, and 1935.  CAMC Collection 54.  9 folders.

ABSTRACT:
The John August Lundeen collection contains notebooks from Lundeen’s time as a student at St. Ansgar’s Academy and Gustavus Adolphus College, correspondence from his time in the military, and his autobiography.

Biographical Note

John August Lundeen was born Johan August Lundin to Jonas Petter and Eva Lisa Lundin.  He was born on 6 March 1848 in Gettinge near Hvetlanda, Småland, Sweden.  Along with his parents and one sister, they came to America in 1853.  His uncle Isaac Lundin changed the family name to Lundeen on account of pronunciation.  Lundeen had five sisters, Christine (30 September 1851), Matilda (11 March 1855), Anna (10 August 1857), Joesphine (28 August 1859), and Emely (11 March 1862).
