Esbjornson, Robert. Materials Concerning the Riverbend Association, 1966-1988. CAMC Collection 123. 1 ½ Hollinger boxes.
ABSTRACT:
The collection of Reverend Robert Esbjornson consists of documents from and about the Riverbend Association. Esbjornson helped found the group and served as chairman of the board for its entirety. The Riverbend Association was formed in the mid-1960s and ended in the mid-1970s. It included the communities of St. Peter, Mankato, New Ulm, and others in south-central Minnesota. Members hoped to mitigate the negative aspects of urbanization through a variety of strategies. In addition, they opposed the creation of a reservoir on the Blue Earth River. Included in this collection are minutes from meetings, correspondence, newspaper clippings, an outline for “Around the Riverbend,” a short television series made by the Riverbend Association, and speeches by Esbjornson, along with other documents. Esbjornson headed the Religion Department at Gustavus Adolphus College during this time.
