Collection Description

Women’s Athletic Association.  Collection of the Women’s Athletic Association, 1922-1956.  GACA Collection 63.  4 folders.

ABSTRACT:
This Women’s Athletic Association (WAA) collection contains the organization’s constitution, scrapbook, Women's Day programs, and Women's Recreation Association Handbooks.  The scrapbook holds newspaper clippings, an informational booklet, and an additional constitution.  WAA formed in 1922 in response to many people’s desire to expand female athletics at Gustavus Adolphus College.  Membership was open to all females interested in participating in sports.  In addition, WAA promoted physical activity and good sportsmanship.  It is assumed that this association eventually became the Women’s Recreation Association during the early 1960s.
