Summer Research: Start

Summer can be a great time for discovery and exploration, especially if you are a student conducting research on campus. We created this guide to help you explore the research support and resources we offer during summer months. Use the tabs at the top of the page to navigate the guide and find help with citations, database usage, and identifying reliable sources.

Be sure to check the Library's website for the most up-to-date hours and information. Feel free to contact us via email with any questions or call the front desk: 507-933-7557.

Helpful Online Library Resources

Research Guides: Here, you can find resources broken down by subject, discipline, and even by course.  You can also locate the Research Guides by clicking on “Research Guides” on the left side of the library homepage.

Quick Answers: For library FAQs and answers about anything from how to use the scanner to where the reference books are located, the Quick Answers page is full of helpful information.

In-Depth Overview: Want a comprehensive overview of how information is produced and accessed, including the role of libraries, librarians and scholars in the process? Spend some time with our tutorial.

Additional Library Benefits

The Library can be a great place to hang out during summer. We've got study rooms & tables  - and not much competition for spaces, unlike the general academic year! Air conditioning, wireless, printing - what more could you want?

We've also got a lot of fiction & some general nonfiction for your recreational reading needs. Check out our Reading Resources for tips and recommendations.

Library Logistics

Library Hours: For most of the summer, the Library will be open Monday-Friday from 12:30 - 4:30 pm. Check the Library's website for the most current up-to-date information on hours, services and building availability.

General questions: Got a question about how long you can check out books? Or how to work the printers? Or where to find a book on the shelf? Stop by the Front Desk & our summer student workers can help you. They can also connect you with resources if you've got a bigger research question (see below).

Research Consultation: While librarians are not on campus during summer months, we still welcome your research questions & look forward to working with you on an as-needed (and as-requested) basis. Please send research inquiries via email (
