JSTOR: Troubleshooting Access Issues

Are you having trouble accessing JSTOR from off campus? This is a known issue that JSTOR is currently working on. While the fix is pending, JSTOR customer support offers the following information about stopgap solutions:

Clearing your cookies and cache will resolve the problem temporarily.
A common cause of the issue recurring quickly is not fully clearing your cookies. The Chrome browser defaults to clearing cookies only from the last 24 hours. Please select "All Time" when asked for a time range.
Users may also be able to sidestep the issue by:
- Temporarily switching to a "private window" or "incognito mode."
- Accessing JSTOR.org directly and logging in with a personal account. Users can access JSTOR content without using the proxy as long as their personal account was previously linked to an institution (by logging in on campus, for example).

Artstor is JSTOR’s cross-disciplinary collection of over 2 million rights-cleared images from around the world. Starting August 2024, Artstor images are discoverable alongside JSTOR’s journals, books, and other primary sources on one platform.
Drama Online (play texts) This link opens in a new window
This collection includes nearly 2,000 play texts, from ancient drama and Shakespeare to contemporary plays.
Historical Abstracts with Full Text This link opens in a new window
Historical Abstracts with Full Text covers world history (excluding the United States and Canada) from the 15th century to the present. It includes hundreds of full text history journals and books.

ACS Guide to Scholarly Communication This link opens in a new window This guide covers topics ranging from scientific communication, to writing in scientific journals, to working with data, to scientific style conventions, to inclusivity in writing.
African American Historical Serials Collection This link opens in a new window An archive of periodicals that document the history of African American religious life and culture between 1829 and 1922. It includes newspapers and magazines, plus reports and annuals from African American religious organizations, including churches and social service agencies.
Arte Público Hispanic Historical Collection: Series 1 This link opens in a new window An archive focused on U.S. Hispanic history, literature, and culture from colonial times until 1960. Series 1 focuses on the creative life of U.S. Latinos and Hispanics. Content is written, indexed and searchable in Spanish and English. Includes historical articles, complete texts of historical books of Hispanic literature and culture, plus hundreds of political and religious pamphlets and broadsides. Content is written in Spanish (80%) and English (20%).

Civil War Primary Source Documents This link opens in a new window Civil War Primary Source Documents includes letters, diaries, administrative records, photographs, illustrations, and maps chronicling the American Civil War as it was experienced.
Ethnic Diversity Source This link opens in a new window Ethnic Diversity Source covers the culture, traditions, and lived experiences of different ethnic groups in America. It provides the full text of nearly 500 journals, including almost 400 peer reviewed journals. It also provides access to the Diversity and Ethnic Studies collection of more than 5,000 ebooks.

Nursing and Allied Health Premium This link opens in a new window This database provides resources for nursing and allied health research, clinical skills development, and curriculum support. Includes training videos for nursing programs and cultural reports to support working with a diversity of patients. Access is provided by eLibraryMN (ELM).
ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Citation Index This link opens in a new window Provides cited reference indexing for dissertations and theses.

Books at JSTOR (ebooks)

Beginning in 2023-24, the Library provides access to ebooks through the JSTOR Evidence-Based Acquisition (EBA) program. The program includes ebooks published in 2020 or earlier (coming in January 2025: ebooks published in 2021). Access this collection by searching the Library’s online catalog and limiting the "source type" to "eBooks."

MIT Press Direct 2 Open (e-books)

The Library is excited to announce our participation in Direct 2 Open, an independent, cost-effective, and accessible way for libraries to offer MIT Press e-books to their patrons. The program allows for unlimited simultaneous users and the e-books are DRM-free: users can print, copy and paste, and download PDFs by chapter. You can access this collection by searching the Library’s online catalog and limiting the "source type" to "eBooks."
