Geyer, Ann. Scrapbook Regarding the Making of the Christmas in Christ Chapel Cope, 1989. CAMC Collection 90. Digital media.
ABSTRACT:
The Scrapbook Regarding the Making of the Christmas in Christ Chapel Cope collection contains photos, samples of fabric and stitches, newspaper articles, church programs, correspondence between the creators and the college, and notes on the project. Photos consist of the cope itself, stitch templates, the artists, and Chaplain Elvee. Donor Ann Geyer retained the scrapbook, this collection is a digital surrogate.
When Lynn Barberg Lindahl, Gustavus class of 1983, heard the theme for Christmas in Christ Chapel of 1989 was “Christ MASS for the Animals,” she suggested that she and her sister, Ann Barberg Geyer, could sew animals on Chaplain Elvee’s cope. Geyer, Gustavus class of 1988, invited Mary Jeanne Richards and Angie Tuckner to help the sisters with their project. In only three months, the four women spent about 1,200 hours constructing the cope, which Chaplain Elvee wore during that year’s Christmas in Christ Chapel.
