The Iota Delta Gamma Honorary Society began in 1941 by Dr. Edgar Carlson.  The Society’s objectives were recognition of high scholarship and contribution to the welfare and culture of the school by stimulating intelligent thinking.  To be eligible for Iota Delta Gamma students had to be regularly enrolled at Gustavus Adolphus College.  They had to have a minimum of 85 credit hours completed.  They had to have at least one semester of residence at Gustavus Adolphus College and they had to keep minimum average grade-point ratios.  If at any time the students’ average fell below the requirements their membership would be terminated until it met the requirements again.  Iota Delta Gamma ended in 1982.
