Organization Note

The New Student Wilderness Immersion Programs originated as the Outdoor Wilderness Experience for incoming students at Gustavus Adolphus College.  College staff and faculty provided guidance and mentorship during the trip and lead participants in discussion of their concerns for the upcoming years.  The program sought to prepare participants for the challenges of college through teambuilding activities and camping in the Minnesota Boundary Waters Canoe Area.  In addition, the experience educated students about ecological stewardship and provided opportunities to apply leadership skills.  An extension of the program included a Community Service Immersion Experience in an urban setting.
