Divest Gustavus. Collection of Divest Gustavus, December 2012-Ongoing. GACA Collection 353. 1 folder.
ABSTRACT:
The Gustavus Adolphus College Divest Gustavus Collection consists of a proposal to the Board of Trustees, projects, and planning materials dating from the founding of the group in December 2012. The Gustavus campaign was founded immediately following the Bill McKibben “Do the Math” lecture on climate change held in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Divest Gustavus was founded originally as a committee of the Gustavus Greens, a student environmental awareness action group. The group created the campaign as a branch of the national fossil fuel divestment platform organized by the web-based organization 350.org. Members work towards divesting the College’s endowment from fossil fuel investments and increasing student involvement in financial decision-making. Divest Gustavus has since evolved into an entity independent of Gustavus Greens, yet the groups maintain a close working relationship and membership base.
