Department of Art and Art History. Collection of the Department of Art and Art History, 1881-Ongoing. GACA Collection 481. ½ Hollinger box, 1 oversize folder, and digital media.
ABSTRACT:
The Department of Art and Art History collection contains materials pertaining mostly to events sponsored or held by the department. Materials include flyers, brochures, photographs, newspaper clippings, posters, and audio/visual media. The majority of materials date from the 1970s forward.
Gustavus Adolphus College’s Art Department began in 1938-39 with mostly studio art classes, but also the history of art. Before this, the Academy had offered various drawing classes until it closed in 1930. Art courses are missing during 1941-42, though studio art classes return in 1943-44. Art history courses return in 1944-45. In 1990-91 the department changed its name to Art and Art History.
