Benson, Marie Schafer.  Marie’s Memoirs – A Farmer’s Daughter in Africa, 2006.  LCA Collection 19.  1 folder.

Abstract:
The Marie Benson Collection contains a copy of Marie’s Memoirs – A Farmer’s Daughter in Africa.  The work documents Benson’s life from childhood through her retirement from missionary work in 1992.  Benson was born in 1930, and attended Gustavus Adolphus College 1948-1952.

Biographical Note

Marie Schafer Benson was born 20 June 1930 in Okabena, Minnesota.  She graduated from Lakefield High School in 1948 and went on to attend Gustavus Adolphus College.  Benson graduated cum laude from Gustavus on 2 June 1952.  She married Stan Benson 4 August 1956.  After Stan Benson was ordained in 1959, they traveled to Tanganyika (now Tanzania).  Most of their missionary work was done in Africa, specifically Tanzania.  After 33 years of missionary work, the couple retired in 1992.
