Collection Description

Bethel Lutheran Church.  Records of Bethel Lutheran Church, Soudan, Minnesota, 1888-1963.  LCA Collection 37.  1 ½ Hollinger boxes and 1 flat box.

ABSTRACT:
The Bethel Lutheran Church collection consists of the church’s records from 1888-1963.  Materials include annual reports, minutes, financial ledgers, and other less substantial papers. Originally, the church served a Swedish-American population, and as a result, some of the records from the 1800s and early 1900s are in Swedish.  Bethel Lutheran Church was located in the rural town of Soudan in northern Minnesota.

Scope and Content

  • Administrative, 1888-1954 and undated
    This series shows activities and actions of the church’s administration. Materials include reports, minutes, and the church register.
  • Financial, 1894-1941
    Records in the financial portion of this collection consist of treasurer ledger books and financial reports.
  • Groups, 1921-1954
    This primarily holds minutes and financial materials for Lutheran Ladies Aid.  There is also some materials for Luther League and Lutheran World Action.
  • Miscellaneous, 1922-1960s
    Included in the section is general correspondence, letters sent to the congregation by pastors, a history of the church (in Swedish), and a scrapbook.
