ABSTRACT:
Ungdomsvännen: Illustrerad Tidskrift för Främjande af Sann Gudsfruktan och Allmänt Nyttiga Kunskapers Spridning (The Friend of Youth: Illustrated Magazine for the Promotion of True Godliness and the Spreading of Useful General Information) was organized by a group of students and faculty at Augustana College and Theological Seminary. The purpose of the periodical was to provide religious material for Lutheran children and youth and to counteract the “harmful books and magazines found in every nook and corner.” While the direct emphasis was on Christian religion and character building, the publication also included art, science, serial stories, history, poetry, biographies, and information on world affairs.
