ABSTRACT:
The Sermons and Writings of Rev. Thure P. Johnson collection consists primarily of sermon notes and programs.  There are writings on various subjects, such as the soul, material possessions, eternal life, and Christmas.  Also included are Johnson’s Luther League Bible Study Talks.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE:
Thure Phillip Johnson (1903-1989) was born in Almesåkra, Jönköpingslän, Sweden on 24 March 1903.  He graduated from Bethany College in Kansas in 1936 and Augustana Theological Seminary in 1940.  He was ordained the same year. He served as the pastor for Pelican Rapids, MN 1940-1945, Stromsburg, NE 1946-1952, Roseau, MN 1952-1963, Lignite and Niobe, ND 1959-1963, Miltona and Carlos, MN 1963-1966, and Dawson, MN 1966-1972.  He married Lillie Peterson on 12 June 1940.  They had one child.  Lillie Johnson died in 1958.  Later that year, Johnson married Selma Bergstrom.

Organization Note:

Note that some sermons are ordered by how many Sundays after Pentecost and Trinity they were given.  Since the Pentecost is one week earlier than the Trinity, both are listed in the folder titles where applicable.  Thus a sermon given on the first Sunday after Trinity would be the second Sunday after Pentecost and so forth.  Below is a chart* of the Lutheran Church seasons.
