ABSTRACT:
The Daniel Johnson research materials collection contains interviews, photographs, earlier draft,, and other materials used by Johnson to write Loyalty: A Biography of Richard Gustavovich Reusch.  Johnson graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1964.  He began research the life of Richard Reusch during 1994.  While teaching at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota, he received a Fulbright Grant.  This allowed him to teach at Petrozavodsk State University in Karelia, Russia, where he continued his Reusch research.  Johnson wrote preliminary chapters chronicling Reusch’s life in 1997, tentatively titles “Son of Kibo.”  Loyalty was published in 2008.  While most materials date from the 1990s, when Johnson was doing his research, some materials from Reusch’s lifetime have earlier dates.  Reusch was a Russian Calvary officer, a Lutheran pastor, a missionary to Tanganyika (later Tanzania), Africa, and professor of Religion at Gustavus Adolphus College.
