Hocanzon, Lars A. Autobiography of Rev. Dr. Lars A. Hocanzon, c. 1903-1919 and 1982. LCA Collection 278. 2 folders.
ABSTRACT:
The Lars Hocanzon Autobiography collection contains a copy of his handwritten autobiography in Swedish and an English translation written by Corinne Dahlen, one of his granddaughters. The writing describes Hocanzon’s life, including congregations he preached in, trips he took, and family events such as births and marriages. Hocanzon was born 22 April 1837 in Nysun, Örebro, Sweden. He moved to the United States and attended Augustana College and Seminary and was ordained 11 June 1871. During his lifetime, Hocanzon organized seventeen congregations, built eighteen churches, and was one of the architects of the Old Main building at Gustavus Adolphus College. He had five children with his first wife Marie C. Person, and nine children with his second wife Johanna Noling. Hocanzon died 21 May 1919.
