FTS: Food, Culture, and Identity: Sources about Food

Overview

On this page you'll find a number of library books about food, including some of our cookbooks! You'll also find a few additional links to get you thinking about what's available online.

The books are divided into two categories: General Collection books and Reference books. You can check out General Collection books. You cannot check out Reference books. (Most of our reference books are encyclopedias, which you would consult in the library but not need to check out, as you're not reading the whole thing.)

This guide talks you through how to locate books in the library, but please ask at the Information Desk for help. We don't expect you to arrive at the library knowing how to find books on the shelf and are happy to give you directions. Once you locate books a few times, you'll have the hang of it.

This is only a sample of what's available in the library. To find more, use the catalog to search for more books and/or talk with a librarian and/or contact Julie.

General Collection Books

Since books are shelved by topic, you can also locate one of these books and then browse the area around it. Our Finding Books guide will help you find the right area in the first place - or just ask at the Information Desk.

Cookbooks

Reference Books

Reference books are located on the main floor of the library on the side facing Beck Hall.

Links

You will find a lot of information available online, as well. I've compiled just a handful of various types of sources: restaurants, food magazines, and organizations. (Note that most online magazines will have paywalls; let me know if you're looking for something and can't access it. I enjoy the detective work involved in getting you the full copy of an article.)

Restaurants

Food Magazines

These represent some of the top magazines in culinary journalism. Most will have paywalls if you aren't a subscriber, so contact Julie for help accessing materials.
