SCA 211: Diversity and Social Change in the Global North: Gustavus History

Notes

There are a lot of ways to research Gustavus history, especially as it relates to its Swedish heritage. You'll find some resources available online, some within the library and others in the College & Lutheran Church Archives. Walk-ins are welcome in the archives, which is located on the top floor of the library. Consult the calendar for current hours. Archives staff are happy to field your questions; don't feel like you need a fully-formed question prior to visiting. Archives staff can help you even if you aren't entirely sure what you're hoping to find.

  • We also have a guide to Gustavus History with even more resources for you to peruse. And if you are looking for current information about a department or office, click on "Section" on the left hand of the Gustavus homepage, then click A-Z list.

Gustavus History Books

Over the years, the College has published a couple of books about itself. Find these in the Library. Use the call numbers to find the books on the shelves or ask any library employee for help. Note that the links take you to the catalog record, not the item itself.

Archival Resources

Archives contain materials specific to the organization they're affiliated with. You'll find a wealth of resources in the College and Lutheran Church Archives - both in print and digitized - centered on Gustavus history. To access items in print, visit the Archives in person (check the hours and calendar to plan your visit). Digitized resources are simply a click away!

  • Gustavus Academic Bulletin/Catalog - You can also browse past issues of the Gustavus catalog in the Archives (the link leads you to the finding aid, which tells you what the Archives has in house). Each catalog provides an overview of departments and course offerings.
