ENG 310: Writing and Nonprofits: Start

This guide will support your research into topics related to nonprofits, including demographic information. Think of it as a springboard: while the guide doesn't contain every single source available on nonprofits in Minnesota (not even close!), it will connect you to information directly and give you ideas of other ways and places to search. 

Some tips:

• Don't hesitate to ask if you've got questions! Although we won't meet as a class, I (Julie Gilbert) am your librarian for the course. I'm familiar with your research projects and topics. Send me an email - I enjoy helping you solve any research problems you have. We can work via email or set up a virtual or in person time to chat.
• You can also find library and research help at the library's Information Desk or via Reference Services.

If you are new to the library or need a refresher, consult our Library FAQs and overview of the Library. As you approach your research, here are some tips for success:

• Explore topics that interest you, as you'll be motivated to keep investigating
• Think carefully about statistics and demographic information
  • Ask yourself who would collect the information and how they might share it.
  • Be flexible as you search; the information might not be collected or presented in exactly the way you hope.
• Ask Julie for help with any research issue. I'm an expert in finding information, so consulting with me will actually save you time
