Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Folklore Association (SEEFA)"The Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Folklore Association (SEEFA) is a scholarly, non-profit organization devoted to the exchange of knowledge among scholars interested in Slavic, East European, and Eurasian folklore. Folklorists study creative and expressive dimensions of human experiences and worldviews. They focus on oral genres, customary behavior, material culture, and belief, paying particular attention to related systems of (informal) communication and transmission in socio-cultural contexts. As technology constantly reshapes our means of communication, the field of folkloristics continues to expand its methodologies and themes. While some folklorists work with published sources and archival documents, others focus on face-to-face interactions via the ethnography of everyday life, still others explore new trajectories in the virtual world. SEEFA seeks to promote instruction in colleges and universities, to encourage the preparation of teaching materials and translations, to organize panels on Slavic, East European, and Eurasian folklore at national and international conferences, to promote publications in collaboration with scholars in those regions, to support exchange and summer programs for students at all levels, and to foster research in related fields such as anthropology, ethnic studies, history, literature, and musicology." - organization About statement
