A Guide to Speculative Fiction at Gustavus Library: Horror, Gothic, and Weird Tales

A guide to speculative fiction created by Visiting Librarian Abe Nemon in 2021/2022.

Horror Fiction

You can search for horror and gothic literature in Gustavus Library's collection with the search terms ge:horror and ge:gothic. There is a great deal of overlap and variance between these and terms like "weird fiction," "supernatural fiction," and "occult-" or "Lovecraftian horror," so combining search terms or searching for specific authors mentioned in articles like this one is another approach.

Librarian's note: Also check out Gustavus author Dr. Whitney Dirks' article in Disability Studies Quarterly, "'Weighty Celebrity': Corpulency, Monstrosity, and Freakery in Eighteenth- and Nineteenth-Century England," and look out for her upcoming book on early modern monstrosity from University of Amsterdam Press!
