Library and Archives: Jobs & Internships

Student Employment

Are you a current Gustavus student interested in working for us either during the year or over the summer? We welcome your interest!

  • All employment at the library (academic year and summer) is done through the Gustavus Student Accounts Office using the platform, HandShake

We look forward to hearing from you!

Gustavus Library Internships

Gustavus Library Internships: Internships are great way to learn more about a profession, gain some real-world experience, and find out if a career is right for you. If you're interested in academic librarianship or non-profit marketing, consider one of our Gustavus Library Internships.

Academic Assistantships

Each semester, the Library appoints at least one academic assistant.  Students who are interested in serving as our departmental academic assistant should reach out to the LIB department chair.

  • As our Academic Assistant, you would receive some compensation for assisting us with a project that benefits the library.  Projects typically involve about 20-25 hours of work during the semester (roughly 1.5 hours per week).  Much of the work can be done independently, any day of the week or time of day.
  • Library staff members would serve as your supervisor(s).  We would meet with you at the beginning of the term to learn more about your interests and abilities and discuss potential projects with you.
  • You might also work closely with one of the Library's internal committees, perhaps attending one or more of their meetings (if your schedule permits).
